How much do I need to have in the bank to get a Japan Tourist Visa?

I am a Permanent resident of the USA and I am planning to go to Japan for 9 days… One of the requirements for a Visa is a bank statement… how much does my bank account need to have so I will get approved for a visa? I only have a checking account because I am a full time college student (read: unemployed) and my parents give me money… Actually they will be paying for my trip to Japan… Do I even need a savings account? So how much do you think I should have in my account? Thanks!

**Alot of people are confused about the ‘Bank Statement’ so here is a link that I found: http://www.la.us.emb-japan.go.jp/e_web/e_m02_06_04.htm It said there, at the bottom part about “Tours/Sightseeing” and mentioned US Bank Statements. Thanks again.

I appreciate it so much!)… You see, I am NOT a US Citizen, I am a Permanent Resident (Green Card)… So yeah, I don’t think I can just go ahead and board a plane to Japan… Additional comments are more than welcome… If you already answered, please just add some details or send me a message! ********UPDATE: Just to make it clear, I am a permanent resident (Green Card) who has been in America for only 4 and a half years (meaning, I am not yet eligible to apply for American Citizenship) and I hold a Philippine Passport.
